| Description: | Job Summary:
The Assistant Superintendent of Catholic schools assists the Superintendent in supporting the activities and services of the Catholic Schools Office. The position reports to the Superintendent of Catholic Schools and operates under general supervision with wide latitude for the use of independent judgment and initiative.
Ministerial Exemption
The employee in this position engages in ministry for the Catholic Diocese of Austin. Because this position is ministerial in nature, the person in this position is considered a minister. The employee should be familiar with the rules, canon and norms of the Roman Catholic Church.

| Duties: | • Promotes Catholic School’s mission and vision by analyzing data to improve school operations, developing partnerships, defining administrative needs and recommendations for improvement and monitoring and overseeing the schools’ federal programs.
• Oversees curriculum instruction by using CSCOPE curriculum software, insuring the use of technology, researching and advising school leadership on developments in curriculum and instruction, chairing curriculum and religion coordinator’s meetings and maintaining a list of text books.
• Visits schools, classrooms and attends student and staff activities as appropriate.
• Coordinates professional development for principals and teachers by monitoring teacher qualifications as defined by TCCED and the Catholic Schools Office, auditing religion teacher qualifications, and determining religion classes needed for certification.
• Maintains open and effective communication with schools, parents, and teachers.
• Oversees schools’ accreditation process by monitoring self studies, annual reports and interim reports and creating visiting teams.
• Maintains a work schedule that maximizes availability to schools and diocesan staff.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Knowledge of the teachings and structure of the Roman Catholic Church.
• Knowledge of theology and liturgical terms, language and usage.
• Ability to use management practices that promote collegiality, teamwork, and collaborative decision making among the staff members.
• Ability to articulate the school’s mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
• Ability to demonstrate skill in conflict resolution with administrators, parents, teachers, staff, and community.
• Ability to communicate orally and in writing, clearly and accurately, complex and/or technical information to a wide variety of audiences.
• Ability to evaluate instructional programs and instructional effectiveness.
• Ability to operate various work-processing software, spreadsheets, and database programs.
• Ability to use technology for online meetings and collaborate with others using master documents.
• Ability to work effectively with others (staff, clergy, religious and laity).
• Ability to provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
• Ability to organize, prioritize and utilize effective time management techniques.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
• Ability to carry out multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
• Ability to follow instructions furnished in verbal or written format.

| Qualifications: | Education and Trainings:
• Master’s Degree in Education or School Administration from an accredited American university or equivalent in a foreign country.
• Experience:
• Three years teaching experience in a Catholic school.
• Three years experience as a school administrator, i.e. principal or academic dean in a Catholic school.
Licenses/Certifications:
• Valid Texas driver’s license.
• Must be certified in Diocese of Austin EIM within 90 days of employment, and maintain certification throughout the employment period.
